William A. "Bill" Hargreaves, beloved husband of Florence, passed away after a lengthy illness at Dinsdale Personal Care Home, on Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at the age of 76 years. Bill was born in Brandon on February 6, 1925, and was raised on the family farm in the Brandon Hills. His early school years were spent at the Gorrie School, and later he attended Brandon University. Bill joined the Canadian Armed Forces in October 1944, and upon returning home he purchased his own farm in the Brandon Hills District. Bill married Florence McIntyre on October 20, 1951. The family moved to Brandon due to Bill's health in 1963. He then sold farm equipment for Graham & Martin and in 1965 Bill started Brandon Auto Electric in partnership with Stan Harland. In 1978 Bill returned to selling farm equipment with Westman Equipment, where his salesmanship skills earned him the International Harverster Salesman Award for Western Canada. He finished his sales career with Mazer Implements and retired in 1989. Bill was involved inthe Kiwanis Club, member of the Keystone Board, as well as a member of the Brandon Hills School Board and Brandon Hills Church. Bill enjoyed golfing, boating, travelling, and vacationing at Clear Lake. He was an avid hockey and baseball fan and loved reading, reciting poetry and debating politics. Through the years, Bill spent many happy hours helping on the family farm in the Brandon Hills. He was very proud of the accomplishments of all his children. "Poppa" adored his seven grandchildren and always showed a keen interest in all of their activities. Bill and Florence raised a family of twin sons and two daughters: Bev (Roland), Jacqueline and Julie of Unionville, Ontatrio; Ken (Shirley), Kelsey and Heidi of Winnipeg; Colin (Shelly), Brett, Dustin and Lindsay; and Karen of Brandon Bill will also be remembered by his sister Lauraine, brothers, Lawrence (Marlyne) of Neepawa; Don and special friend Ruth Martin of Souris and sister-in-law, Donna. Bill was pre-deceased by his parents, Aaron and Marion; his brothers Stewart and Harleigh; sister-in-law, Jean; and brother-in-law, Robert Collie. The Memorial Service will be held at Central United Church, 327 - 8th Street, on Friday, November 16, 2001 at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Margret Kristjansson officiating. A private family interment will take place at the Brandon Hills Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
