The death of Alice Elizabeth Stone (nee Fisher), beloved wife of Lorne Stone, occurred at the Assiniboine Centre on Wednesday, September 26, 2001. Alice was born in Roblin, Manitoba on January 16, 1948 to Edith and Clemial Fisher, the youngest of nine children. She attended the Tummel School in Roblin until the 8th grade. The Fisher family moved to Erickson where Alice attended Erickson Collegiate. She went back to school at Assiniboine Community College where she completed her grade 12 equivalent, a small motor repair course and a 5th class power engineer course. Alice married Lorne Stone, of Erickson, Manitoba on October 23, 1965. Alice was a homemaker and a mother to her three children. She entered the workforce as a custodian at the Casa Blanca Motel, the Western Motel, Assiniboine Community College and the Ag Centre. She moved on to the Brandon School Division where she was the head custodian at Harrison Middle School. Alice was actively involved in the Highways Ladies Club, Westend Community Centre, and the Church Softball League. She loved to dance, enjoyed camping, curling, golf, sewing and handicrafts. Alice received a great deal of satisfaction over the last few years helping her children remodel their homes. A very special part of her life was her one and only granddaughter, Sydney. She spent a great deal of time teaching and playing with Sydney, which brought her immense pleasure. Alice is survived by her husband, Lorne; children, David; Beverly (Kevin) and granddaughter, Sydney; and Dwayne (Karin); brothers, Bill (Lil); Fred (Sharon); Jack (Donna); Albert (Nettie); and Earl (Isabel); sister, Ellen (Stewart) Bridgeman; numerous aunts, nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Clemial in 1981 and Edith in 1988; and brothers, Lee in 1979 and Ray in 1993. The Funeral Service was held at Central United Church on Saturday, September 29, 2001 with Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood officiating. Pallbearers were, Garnet Fisher, Rodney Stone, Don Wrobleski, Ross Gordon, Brian Anderson and Wayne Shott. Honorary pallbearers were all in attendance. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery.
