Obituary

KRUGER: Alfred Friedrich "Fred" Kruger, of Brandon, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on September 24, 2008. Fred grew up in eastern Germany in an area called Pommern where the land has big, open fields and wood lands, just like Manitoba. He studied agriculture in Berlin and continued to work in this field both in Germany and Canada until his retirement. Fred was a very active man whose main passion was sailing. He started sailing in Germany on the Baltic Sea and continued to sail here in Canada on Lake Winnipeg up to the age of 90. The sailing awards he won pay tribute to his sailing excellence. He also loved to dance with his partner Clara Hornibrook. As recently as early 2008, they could be seen together dancing almost every Saturday night. Fred also loved films. For years he volunteered as a projectionist at various events including the early years of the Brandon Film Festival. Fred was also a proud supporter of the NDP and believed deeply in the rights of common people versus those of rich, blue-sweatered Bay Street. He is survived by his youngest son Bodo Kruger; granddaughter Shianne Kruger; partner Clara Hornibrook and his first wife Rosemarie Kruger. Fred was predeceased by his oldest son Hans-Jurgen Kruger; parents Friedrich and Kate Kruger and his brother Hans Kruger. In memory of Fred, there will be a Come and Go Gathering held on Saturday, October 25, 2008 between 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm at the Victoria Inn, Room 134. All friends or acquaintances of his are welcome to join us if at all possible. Tea, coffee and sandwiches will be served. Memorial donations may be made to Unicef, #1100 - 2200 Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario, M4S 2C6 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 3 - 824 18th Street, Brandon Manitoba, R7A 5B7, or the David Suzuki Foundation, 2211 West 4th Avenue, Vancouver, British Columbia, V6K 4S2. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com.
We miss you so much Fred.
