SMITH: Alexander. It is with great sorrow that the family of Alex Smith announce his death on Friday, September 24, 1999 at the Virden District Hospital. Alex was known for his sharp memory throughout the places he lived. He was a hard worker and farmed in Elkhorn and Oak Lake areas. Alex spent his last years in Grand Valley Place, Brandon. Alex was predeceased his wife Helen in 1994 and son-in-law Dennis Jacobson in 1998. He leaves to mourn three sons: Norman (Joan), Gordon (Margie) and Graham (Irene); three daughters: Winnie (Neal) Brennan, Bev Jacobson, and Joyce (Cliff) McGhie; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers: Fred (Lucy) of Brandon and Victor (Eda) of Winnipeg; one sister, Caroline (Orville) Lee of Winnipeg; one brother-in-law, Ralph Pfrimmer of Sperling; and several nieces and nephews. A very special thank you to his granddaughter Pam, whose love, devotion and gift of friendship over the years were especially appreciated by Grandpa. The ceremony to celebrate Alex's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Tuesday, September 28, 1999. Rev. Gordon Stevenson officiated. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. All attending were considered Honorary Pallbearers.
